SCOTTLAND FC bounced back to winning ways with an emphatic 3-0 win over Bikita Minerals in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Rufaro on Saturday, April 5, ending a two-match winless streak.
Reigning Soccer Star of the Year and Mabviravira captain, Walter Musona, opened the scoring in the first half for a 1-0 lead at halftime.
He headed in a Vassilli Kawe cross in the 25th minute.
That was to be the only goal of the half.
Mthokozisi Msebe doubled the advantage early in the second half with a well-taken volley, assisted by Khama Billiat. The game was effectively decided when Takunda Chanata inadvertently turned a Panashe Mutimbanyoka cross into his own net 15 minutes before the final whistle.
The win moved Scottland into second place for 24 hours before Ngezi Platinum regained the top position on Sunday, with Mabviravira dropping to third.
Scottland FC went into the match at the back of a defeat to Ngezi Platinum Stars at home in March and a 1-1 away draw against Highlanders.
Coach Tonderai Ndiraya expressed his satisfaction with the win, stating:
"I think we expected to win and we won and that is what is important. We were coming from a background of a defeat by former champions Ngezi Platinum Stars and of course we improved by drawing in a very tight fixture in Bulawayo against Highlanders and then today we won. If you look at the trend it's an improvement, which I am so excited about."
He added:
"I thought we competed very well and had total dominance in the first half, but I was not too pleased with our finishing and creativity as we weren't fashioning any clear-cut chances. Of course, the goal came from Walter Musona through that assist by Vassili Kawe, but we were not really good in the final third."
Bikita Minerals coach Wilson Mutekede attributed the defeat to defensive errors.
"I think it's a match that we started very slowly and in the same phase of the game we then conceded a goal. It was a goal that I thought we could have done better to avoid
“But as we went behind, we struggled to get to grips with the situation while Scottland got better and better. We then made mistakes at the back and those mistakes determined the game. We tried to come back, but by then it was a bit late," said Mutekede.
Next up for Scottland is Yadah at Rufaro on Saturday.
